Partnership with Donors Choose In January of 2011 Townsend Press made a second donation of $1 million to Donors Choose. The donation will underwrite literacy and literature projects for Grades K-1 teachers and Grades 6-12 teachers in low-income schools. TP’s first donation of $1 million to Donors Choose, made in October of 2010, put books into 3301 classrooms and the hands of 283,842 students. Like Donors Choose, Townsend Press seeks to help students discover the pleasure and power of reading. To this end, TP publishes the acclaimed Bluford Series. Over six million Bluford books have been sold to schools at the nonprofit price of just $1 each, and almost half as many have been given away (some testimonials can be found here). TP also publishes at $1 a book the recent King School Series, 70 books for ethnically-diverse kindergartners and first graders. The series is already well on its way to selling its first million copies. |
