Safety and Security Measures Coming To Pawnee CUSD #11
Video
Entrance Cameras/Intercoms
Installed
at Pawnee Schools

During the
June 18th school board meeting, the new “controlled entrance”
equipment being installed over the summer was discussed.
Video entrance cameras are being installed in three main entry locations. The elementary, high school, and Pre-kindergarten doors are all included.
The new system will be active the first day of school. The camera system is very much like those installed in a number of area schools. The implementation plans call for the system to allow staff, students, and parents to enter freely between 7:40 am and 8:15 am.
At 8:15 am, which is when students should be in class, the system will become active.
From 8:15 am and throughout the rest of the day, any visitor to the school will simply push a button on the video unit mounted at each respective entrance door. The button acts very much like a doorbell and alerts the secretarial staff that someone is requesting entry to the building.
Each secretarial office has a video monitor mounted near their desk which allows them to view the person standing at the door. The system also allows the secretary to talk to the visitor via an intercom system.
The system can be shut down for various evening extra-curricular events such volleyball or basketball games. Over the last two years the board had previously discussed the need for upgrading the overall security system as needed to protect our students during the school day.
