During
the June 18th school board meeting, the Pawnee Board of Education
was presented with a Bright Star Award in recognition of exemplary
student and financial performance.
This award is given to districts whose students' academic performance ranks in the upper one-third of Illinois schools, but whose expenditures per pupil ranks in the lower one-fourth of Illinois School Districts based on 2008 Illinois Report Card data. According to the letter from Dr. Dee Shugart, President of School Search. Pawnee CUSD #11 is one of only 68 schools within the state's 868 districts to receive this award.
According to the data from the 2008 School Report Card, the district's per student expenses for 2008 totaled $6,195.00 per student.. The state average for all districts is $9,907 per student, with many districts spending at least 50 percent more than that. The board of education, with guidance and expertise from Jill Hamilton, Comptroller, has exercised considerable control over expenses in previous years, which have resulted in this recognition.
