Strategic Planning Goals

2008 - 2009 Strategic
Planning Goals

The board of education, administration, staff, and community met on February 23, 2008 to continue the annual process of Strategic Planning on behalf of the students of our district.  Well  over 50 people gave up a Saturday to brainstorm, pose questions, and collect ideas about various ways to continue making progress in every aspect of school life.

In order to organize the work, the myriad of school functions
were broken down and grouped into five broad categories.
The categories identified were:

1.)  Community Outreach
2.)   Building, Grounds, Transportation, and Cafeteria
3.)   Administrative Functions
4.)   Student/Faculty Handbooks,
5.)  Curriculum and Student Academic Opportunities

Subgroups of volunteers were then assigned to each of the five categories.  Each subgroup met and spent time
discussing district needs and brainstorming ideas
and suggestions for each area.

At the conclusion of the brainstorming sessions,
each subgroup was asked to list and prioritize
the topics they discussed
and present them back
to the full group during the working lunch portion
of the agenda for the day.
The full group reviewed each suggestion and
made comments or asked questions of the
subgroup to clarify their reports.

Since the Strategic Planning session, the Board has reviewed all of the items suggested and picked the final topics that will be our main focus for this school year.  Obviously, we had many, many more ideas than we could possibly act on.

The following items were selected as priorities
for all members of the school staff

The board has historically used the Strategic Planning process as a method to focus on a smaller group of high priority (and reasonably attainable) goals that we have the resources to execute.  Obviously there were items discussed during our Strategic Planning session that are not on this final list.  Some of them will be accomplished through the normal course of events during the school year.  A few ideas will simply have to wait until a more opportune time or when funds become available to implement them
(air-conditioning the balance of the classrooms for example).

The board of education wishes to thank those who gave up their personal time to be a part of this important process.  The board has committed to using the goals established through Strategic Planning to guide the district's development over the coming school year and fully expects administrative updates on staff progress toward completing each goal throughout the school year.  Those updates will be posted to the district website.
